It is a stream of physiotherapy where additional qualifications and experience have resulted in specialist skills in the area of neurology. Conditions that a Neuro Physio might treat include acquired brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, functional neurological disorder, neurodegenerative conditions (such as Parkinson’s Disease or Multiple Sclerosis), and peripheral nerve diseases or injury (and many more). These conditions require a sound understanding of how the nervous system works and complex medical problem solving.
Restoration or preservation of functional ability is often the main goal – helping people to walk again, dress independently, or maintain capacity with a permanent or degenerative condition. There is also a large focus on client empowerment and support to achieve better self-management. Debbie will help you improve quality of life through learning how to move better and demonstrating how to translate this to ongoing exercise and community participation. This can involve equipment and environmental set-up, aids and assistive technology. Working with a multidisciplinary team and working out how to integrate into your community is important. Debbie believes in a holistic approach that ensures an individualised and targeted service with great outcomes for physical and mental health.
Debbie is a self-employed neuro physiotherapist who has worked in rehabilitation for 33 years. Her service involves home visits, hydrotherapy and treating in rooms – for all types of complex neurological conditions. Debbie graduated as a Physiotherapist from Sydney University in 1991 and obtained a Masters in Gerontology from Sydney University in 1999. In 2013 Debbie completed her title in neurology through the Australian Physiotherapy Association. Debbie has extensive physiotherapy experience in the public and private health sector and has established several private rehabilitation practices prior to working alone.
Debbie’s career has continued to take her in the direction of complex problem solving and habit change in health. Debbie values respectful interaction and connection with her clients, to fully understand how to help them overcome barriers to movement, plan a way forward and better use their bodies to achieve clearly identified goals. Utilising movement to help someone find or rediscover meaning, and fulfillment has become the focus of her career.
My commitment is to provide comprehensive quality care
Begin your journey with an in-depth evaluation to confirm your diagnosis and determine where to target your treatment. This personalised assessment will establish your physiotherapy needs and goals to set the foundation for a targeted treatment plan. It also provides an opportunity to determine if we are the right match to support you in meeting your health care needs.
Receive specialised rehabilitation in the comfort of your own home. This service focuses on movement analysis and motor control training to improve your mobility.
Benefit from one-on-one physiotherapy sessions in a warm hydrotherapy pool. The water provides a gravity-free environment, allowing for pain-free movement while building strength and improving functional abilities. Debbie provides one on one direction and progression with a home program to follow up unsupervised. Regular hydrotherapy can have tremendous results and is the perfect place for a wide range of neurological and complex disability needs. Club MMM Hydrotherapy Pool is used for aquatic physiotherapy which is indoors and usually 35-36 degrees all year round.
Support individuals with disabilities by helping them build confidence in their bodies and progress toward community exercise participation. We work closely with current support systems to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Achieve the best results by working with your team of health professionals, including GPs, specialists, and therapists. This holistic approach ensures that all aspects of your care are integrated and aligned with your goals.
Debbie believes that motivation and working towards tangible and enjoyable activities is pivotal in achieving results. Why not try and make your physiotherapy fun?
